'ATLÂNTIDA'
Performance, 2022
at Lisbon National Theatre
Atlântida is an attempt at transgender historiography where the narrative of that history never
takes a fixed form. It begins with a series of practices that propose a somatic relationship to
historical material, be it documents, characters, supposed truths, archaeological objects,
inquisitorial manuscripts, fashions, and so on. This somatic relationship comes from a work of
mourning, where the silences and the absences of historical archives lead to a thought that is
driven by the body. The body swallows History to embody it and re-enact (mourn) its losses. The
somatic dimension is performed through eroticism, and paranoia - one could even say the piece
proposes an eroto-historiography and paranoid archaeology. The practices of the piece are taught
to local performers and the structure is created from within. As the practices unfold, two time
travellers appear and announce that both their futures are in danger. What will the performers do?
