'The Scythe is a Crescent Moon'
Installation and performance, 2021
Collective exhibition curated by Marta Espiridi o at Galeria Municipal do Porto
“The Scythe is a Crescent Moon” is an installation activated by a performance. It comprises
props, scenography and music, as well as the accumulated texts narrating a fantasy world
dealing with poison, magic and body modification.
“The swamp is a fearful territory one must cross in order to arrive at the destination. The swamp
is, in fact, the only point of crossing between any past and any future - the ecology of the lotus
and the lily - the poison of decaying roots or the belladonna flowers. The swamp is the river of Death
one must dance upon. To exist joyfully amongst what is muddy is what truly became of us. And as
a group with crooked ways, the Blhur’s are the only one’s who may cross our paths. Who give
themselves the courage. They are the only ones who come near us, near the river. You see, all the
other tribes and cities had developed mechanisms of getting the water from somewhere else.
They stopped the natural flow of water that comes from this side of the continent to theirs. They
have walls and strict regulations about coming near this valley - it’s as if they trapped us here. We
can’t go into their territories as they fear the contaminants of the water will spread through
contact with one of us. And so here we are, child. With a landscape as free of any other humans
as one could wish for. The only contact we have is with the Bhlur, that have their sacred forest
some miles to the east of the Hush’n, and with the Sybille, far away in the caves of the seaside.”
